Bundle up, brace the wind, and spread that holiday cheer, Chicagoans! Whether you have an apartment by Clark and Fullerton near the Lincoln Park Zoo or you’re renting in the heart of the Loop by State and Chestnut, you are never too far from good spirits, festive lights, warm drinks, and goodies. Make sure you check out Chicagoland’s favorite holiday traditions-they’re a fantastic way to wrap up a long day of shopping along Michigan Avenue’s twinkly Magnificent Mile!
Christkindlmarket Chicago: November 21 – December 24
Who says there isn’t Holiday fun to be had in the Chicago Loop? Conveniently located on West Washington at Daley Plaza, this annual German-inspired Christklmarket is a perfect place to pick up some unique hand-crafted gifts while you sip Sternthaler Gluhwein (hot spiced wine) from a souvenir boot-shaped mug, or fill up on traditional German foods from vendors like Schnitzelhaus and Donermen. You’ll enjoy meandering among the red and white awning booths lined with Christmas lights while you try to take in all of the trinkets, jewelry, and handcrafted wooden toys. You can either make a full evening of visiting the Christkindlmarket by taking breaks in one of the warm beer tents or you can make it a quick stop on your way to Union Station from the Aon Center on East Randolph Street.
Lincoln Park Zoo Lights: Weekends + Some Weeknights November 28 – January 4
If you feel like venturing a bit beyond the Loop you can check out this annual display of Christmas lights and holiday music, presented by ComEd and PNC Bank, in the Lincoln Park Zoo. It’s a fun way to lift your spirits at any age! This free entrance, month-long display between North Clark Street and Lake Shore Drive features holiday crafts, mulled wine, lager, pictures with Santa, snacks, ice carving, and of course, your favorite zoo animals. When you head over to the adjacent Farm-in-the-Zoo, you can burn off some of your holiday indulging with some fun ice-skating!
On December 3, Louis Glunz Beer will host BrewLights at the Zoo, for some adult holiday fun. Guests can sample from 12 breweries and buy full beers and food as they please.
