Known for its spectacular attractions like The Museum Campus and Chinatown, the South Loop is also one of the most dog friendly neighborhoods in downtown Chicago. With its four popular dog friendly parks and plenty of pet friendly luxury apartment rentals, the South Loop is the perfect place for you and your furry friends.
Grant Bark Dog Park
As the very first dog friendly park to be constructed in the South Loop, Grant Bark Park is also the largest dog friendly area in downtown Chicago. Located near Grant Park with more than 18,000 sq.ft. of space, this beautiful off-leash park is lined with honey locust trees, and also has a decorative fountain. The park is fully-fenced and double-gated with plenty of fresh water sources for your puppy.
Coliseum Dog Park
Located just south of Wabash Avenue, Coliseum Park has more than 2,800 sq. ft. of space, including a dog run and a raised area covered with turf. There is also a dog friendly fountain, along with a playground and recreation area located nearby.
Fred Anderson Dog Park
As one of the newest dog friendly parks in the South Loop, this park was completed in 2014 to pay homage to famed Chicago jazz musician, Fred Anderson. The park is specialized designed with two areas: one area designated for small dogs (5,200 sq. ft.), and another area designated for large dogs (13,700 sq.ft.). Once you enter the gate, there are two clearly marked entrances to distinguish these different areas. There are also dog friendly water-play fountains and tunnels, along with picnic tables for those perfect summer afternoons in downtown Chicago!
D’Angelo Dog Park
Located just off the west side of Franklin Street, this 5000 sq. ft. dog friendly park has its own pet friendly water fountain, along with a designated area for small dogs.
South Loop has amazing dog friendly parks, but it also regarded as one of the best neighborhoods for dog friendly luxury apartment rentals! Beautiful new additions to the neighborhood like 1001 South State and 1000 South Clark have great, pet friendly amenities like dog runs, pet care facilities, and grooming areas—1000 South Clark even has a 5,000 sq. ft. dog run.
Around the South Loop neighborhood, you’ll also find dog friendly restaurants like The Spoke & Bird, Kasey’s Tavern, and Square One—to name a few! The annual Chicago Food Truck Festival in the South Loop is another dog friendly event to check out.
